Stop using your phone as an alarm

Stop using your phone as an alarm

You can't wake up because you're sleeping next to a slot machine.

Your phone is not an alarm clock. It's a dopamine engine. You set your alarm for 6 AM. You put the phone on your nightstand. Then you think, I'll just check messages really quick. The next time you look at the time, it's 1:14 AM and you're watching a video about how to forge a knife out of a railroad spike.

The blue light shreds your melatonin. Your brain thinks it's noon.

Let me back up. The worst part isn't the night before. It's the morning. When the alarm finally goes off, what's the first thing you do? You grab the phone. You turn off the alarm, and right there on the lock screen are three emails from your boss, two WhatsApp messages from a group chat you hate, and a news alert about the economy.

Your day is ruined before you even sit up in bed.

You need a hard boundary. Use a digital alarm clock. Use an online alarm on your laptop across the room. Put the phone in the kitchen. Make the alarm sound so annoying that you actually have to stand up to turn it off.
